Behaviour of Blue Legged Hermits

I find it fascinating that prior to the evening hermits will congregate in one place. I first witnessed this in my other tank in 2001 and never really thought to much about it as a biologic function. In my current set up, the hermits will all reconviene at the same general area on the same rock in the middle of the tank right before the lights go out.

I haven't read anything that has been published on this but I have now become quite curious.

They just do that to make it easier for you to remove 'em all when you decide to go hermitless in your main tank... :)

Sorry, have no legit idea on why they'd do that...

Ryan...I notice similar behavior, but haven't paid attention to times. There does seem to be 1 rock that usually has the majority of hermits on it. I need to check times when I see them there...

I think they are getting together to discuss different stategies of attacking your snails at night. said:
ROFL. I don't doubt that at all. I have like a snail graveyard in the corner of my tank and I'm thinking that is were they set up their ambush.

I've seen mine congregate in the shell graveyard to do mass shell swaps. It's like a chain reaction.. one changes shells, and 2 try to get the old one, which causes 2 more to try to get the ones the second batch evacuated..

Mine do the same thing. Except there are a few places that they meet up. It becomes a clump of hermits. In the morning, they will all be fighting each other until they all fall out of the spot. It is funny to watch my tank and every once in a while see some things droping from the top of the rocks. They are always fighting.
