Bad Tang

I bought 4 fish from a member last weekend. I noticed my open brains and 1 clam are not happy. I started watching really close and found the problem. I have a naughty Hippo Tang. She is nipping at the brains and has taken bites out of one of the clams mantle. How do you catch a hippo tang in a tank full of rock and corals and clams. She is good with sps, so once I figure out how to catch her she will need a new home. Can someone please give me an idea how to catch her? Or tell me how to get her not to eat my clams. HELP PLEASE!

Hippos have a reputation for eating zoanthids as well as nipping LPS. I don't know if this will work since a lot of hippos tend to squeeze into tight corners and lock themselves in with their dorals, but watch where it sleeps then in the middle of the night go get it with a net while its in sleep mode.

I caught my Purple Tang that way and was easy as cake.

Otherwise you are left with chasing it around, pulling LR out or using a trap.

Make a trap using a 1 or 2 liter bottle. Cut the top portion off, invert it and use fishing line/string to make a "trap door" squirt a bit of food in there and be patient sooner or later the fish you want will go in.

Cheers,

I had a prob. with my hippo as well. I ended up waiting til it went to hits bedtime place and held it against the rock as I pulled it and the rock out. It is now in my sump soon for sale. It was eating my lps.

I spyed on her last night. There is no way to get to her sleeping spot without tearing the tank apart. I guess I will try to trap her.
Thanks for the info.
Mary
