bad spot on maze brain

We got a maze brain earlier this week, it was intact all over.
Yesterday I noticed a small bad spot on it - could see skeleton. I gently turkey-blasted it. Today the bad spot is slightly bigger.

Do you know what this is called? Is there a treatment? Do you think it will heal it's wound?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

That isn't a good sign. You may have a coral suffering from brown jelly disease, which you can google. Blowing off the bad may help, but the trick is stopping it in its tracks. If you keep blowing it off, you might blow away some healthy tissue in the process. Maybe a freshwater dip might help, that it is a guess on my part. I've never had to deal with it, so I don't have the exact solution at my fingertips.

If the coral is in healthy water with good current, it may recover. You might try feeding it in a dome (top of a 2-liter bottle) to give the coral some energy to combat this problem, with something tiny like thawed cyclop-eeze.

Hey Marc I used the coke bottle idea on my goniopora tonight. Works great! Thanks! I have been trying to think of something to keep the fish away from it while its eating but never thought of that.

Good. Hey, don't make the mistake I made and forget about it overnight. (Yeah, I did that once and the coral was so faded for several days afterwards.) If you think there is even a chance of you forgetting, drill some holes in the dome to allow a little circulation to pass through it.

I have one of each. :p
