Automated (Attended) Water Changes

I am handicapped, but fairly mobile, and lugging the salt water around is a pain in the butt. Does anyone have any ideas for building an automatic system to remove DT water, and add salt water for water change? I would be interested in any currently functional build, or suggestions. If you could include info such as pumps and storage, it would be greatly appreciated.

i currently have a 180 gallon reef tank.

Thanks!

I was in the same boat when I had surgery so I bought SpectraPure. It removes old sw, replaces with new sw, and adds fresh rodi for ATO. I have a 65g container in my garage with new sw and my ato is also in garage, holding 25 gallons. I have it programmed to change 1 gallon per 24 hours on my 105g tank. Parameters have been stable extremely well with great coral growth. I can go about 2 months before I have to mix new sw again, which then will be down for about 2 days max.

There's a thread on reef central dedicated to this under: DIY. You might get some inspiration from there as I"m sure others have.

Hope that helps!

My water change isn't automated per say, but it is pretty darn easy. I have a movement disorder so when we did our recent upgrade to a 450 display my husband made sure to make it as easy as possible for me to do everything. I have a flexible hose with a syphon on the end I put in the tank. It has a bulb on it I squeeze to initiate the syphon. I close the canopy door on it and it syphons until I stop it or air breaks the syphon. Then he hard plumbed a pump from the saltwater barrel that goes into the sump. I turn on a switch and allow the sump to fill then turn on the main. The main just out paces the fill pump. I just watch for it to get close and turn it off. We have a freshwater pump that is hard plumbed to the top off to fill it up as well. I have pictures in my build thread if you want to look at them.
