Auto Top-off system I bought 11/04!!!

OK, so I bought an auto top-off system from another member in 11/04 and am just ready to set it up. But I can't remember how to do it!

It involves a float attached wired to an extension cord with two outlets. Then, there are two pumps - that seem to be air pumps - that plug into the extension cord. To each air pump, there is some flexible airline tubing - two tubes to each pump. And one "T" in the middle that attaches to some air tubing that is rigged through the lid of a 5-gallon water jug. The lid of the jug has what looks like one flexible tube that goes down into the water and goes through the lid (lots of silicon) with a long extension that goes into the tank/sump, etc. There is another smaller flexible tube in the lid that looks like it it used to connect it to the air pumps.

Does this make any sense to anyone? Any ideas how I set this thing up?

Thanks...

It would probably be easier to explain it and set it up upon seeing it. I would be willing to come over and look it at it anytime you have free.

Hang the float switch in the sump or tank at desired water level (sump is definitely the way to go if you have one). The float switch should be wired into the extension cord (spliced inline into one of the two wires). Plug in the extension cord. Plug the two air pumps into the other end of the extension cord. All air pump outlets should be teed together to increase airflow. These connect to the top of the container to the line that does not go all the way to the bottom. The other line coming out of the container should start at the bottom of the container and run out the top and into your sump/tank (slightly above water level to prevent back siphoning). When the switch lowers due to decreased water level, it will activate the air pumps, which in turn force air into the container and subsequently push water out and into your sump/tank. When desired level is reached, the float switch will turn off the air pumps. Presto!! Auto top-off!! Anyone feel free to jump in and correct me. I’ve never actually used the air pump method. My float switch is connected to a submerged pump in my reservoir.

I run a similar top off on my 110. It works great by the way. I can post pics later tonight if needed. K-PO discribed it pretty good.

I think K-PO nailed it. If you still can't get it working maybe you can find a club member who lives close by to help you out

Cool - thanks K-PO, et Al, that makes sense. I'll give that a shot tonight. I might finally be getting a little more "automated" - as much fun as the pitcher a night has been for the past 4.5 years!

And if I can't get it to work, it will be salty_75 to the rescue - I'll provide the suds.
