Auto top-off - Don't laugh

[Here's a pic of what I did for a temporary auto-topoff unit. I went with the float switch wired inline on an extension cord that powers a min-jet powerhead in a 5 gallon jug.

Eventually I will bond a small piece of acrylic into the sump as a permanent housing for the switch, but I went with the jury-rigged PVC elbows shown so I can figure out how much the water level is going to move between off and on before I decide the exact right height for the switch.

[Looks permanent enough to me! I'm all about cheap stuff that works. But what do I know. To drip kalk (which I only do on extremely rare occasions since I have a calcium reactor)
I have a milk jug that i have poked a tiny pinhole close to the bottom. I leave the pin in put in a spoonful of kalk mix it up. Let it sit for a few hours. Set it on the side of my sump. Take the pin out and get a drip that last several hours.]

[Looks good. Nice structure. The important thing about a top-off switch is that it is permanently affixed. If it can pull away and float hither and thither you are almost assured a flood.]
