attaching leather to rock

I got a beautiful blue-green leather coral (was called a "fur leather") yesterday but it had come detached from the its rock before I got it home. What's the best way to get it to reattach to a rock? I rubberbanded it to the rock yesterday, but it just cut the little stump off. I tried VERY loosly rubberbanding it today (any looser and it wouldn't have stayed on the rock) but now it looks like it's cutting it in two. I may end up with two seperate frags that BOTH need to be attached to rock. What's the best way to go about doing that. What I've been doing is obviously wrong. Thanks!

You can get a little bit of bridal veil (Wal Mart) and wrap that around it and then use the rubber bands to hold the veil in place until it attaches 3-4 days later.

My suggestion would be if you have some epoxy, mix up a little bit of epoxy take the coral out of the water and dry the end you need to append to the rock with a paper towel. Also dry the rock. Apply gel supper glue to the epoxy on both sides. The side that you place on the rock and coral. Let dry for a few minutes and return to aquarium. If you dont have any epoxy it can still be done with just gel super glue, but it will take a bit more glue. The leather will attatch itself within a week or so anyway.

Good luck

Sure you can. I dont know where you heard that theory from. I do it every now and then. I actually have a leather coral that I have been trying to kill for years now, that I have to cut out of the aquarium. This time instead of giving away unmounted. I will mount a piece and post how I do it. You just have to put the coral on a paper towl for a while to get it dry. Thats about it.

Well Ok. Here is the leather that I cant seem to get rid of that just keeps coming back and killing my existing corals. Its in several places and I'm going to cut it out and glue it to a rock. hopefully my mico brain will recover.

Ok. First step is to get a razor blade and cut the coral out of the aquarium. This is just one of the pieces I cut out.

One you get the pieces out of your aquarium. The first step is to get them dry. Then you need to concentrate on the area that you are going to glue. You need to dap it and apply pressure to stop the bleeding.

Now that you have all the tools. Its time to glue as you desire. I attatched all of these to this stone. As you can see in the second picture, I'm holding the coral upside down. You can leave the corals out of the water for some time without having to worry about it getting harmed. This is a common mistake on trying to glue corals...especially leathers. I will place this coral in the sell/trade forum for $10.

I hope this helped.
