ATO Pump

I am going to be changing the ATO setup on my solana and will need the pump to push water from a 5g jug through a line about 5-6 feet long. Any suggestions on a pump since an aqualifter wont do the job.

Lol. Every one of my tanks has a rio 800 in the ATO. Rio 800 will run dry 3 times longer than a mj. (like if your ATO runs dry while you're at work or out of town for the weekend. Oops).

I would rather the pump go out than catch on fire.... I personally smoked a 2100 about five or so years ago.

The Mini-Jet 606 is what I use and has worked beautifully. They will run dry and won't burn out. In my setup, it pumps water 2' up from the bottom of a trash can (my top-off reservoir) and across approx three feet to my sump. Works perfectly. The pump has an adjustable flow rate, but I just run mine on the full open setting.

Rio 800 said:
For the record the Rio 800 is not an option as it wont fit inside the mouth of a 5g jug. I am considering putting a 10g tank inside my stand to be used for top off which would change this picture a little bit, but for right now it would probably be better if the pump didnt have to be submersible. Similar to the aqualifter type design. Just with the capacity for about 5ft head height.

Would something like http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/tunze-osmolator-replacement-metering-pump-5000-02.html
Work?
I could check mine to see what voltage it runs off of and you could grab a converter. This would be a great idea as it pumps from the bottom.

The link doesnt work, but I found what you are referencing, I dont know that its quite what I am looking for but Ill keep it in memory. I think I have decided that the easiest route to go is just to buy a empty 10g and use it to hold the top off water for both tanks, so I can use a submersible pump like a maxi-jet/rio.

I had one melt down in water. Blew nasty oil and funk all over

Can a Tom's aqualifter not handle 4ft of head pressure? I'm assuming this is because you don't have a sump and it has to pump up to the main tank?

edit:
for reference my aqualifter takes it up 2ft and than back down to my sump.

On my solana i am running a tunze osomolator with a 5 gallon aquarium that fits perfect underneath, and it is all run with quick connects so the ato tank has a top. I have never been more satisfied with the peace of mind with a top off. Give me a shout if you want to check out how i did it, would work well for a normal top off in a solana to, and i am right down the road from ya.

.... I am..... For some reason i thought you were in Lewisville.... Lol oh well offer still stands... Lol
