Are Sea Hares as great as their press?

Hey all,

I've seen several posts on this and other forums about people seeking out sea hares to deal with hair algae and then passing them along to other members so that they don't starve.

I had a mini-cycle recently which has lead to the growth of some hair algae that I've been struggling to remove. I'd rather not result to chemical means and have manually removed as much as I can reach easily. I've also decreased my feeding, photoperiod and changed 2 of my 6 oldest t5's, but I'm still struggling despite zero nitrate and phosphate readings (though I realize that those numbers can be deceptive given the rapid consumption of those nutrients).

So, I'm looking for biological control methods and the sea hares seems to get a lot of good press in that regard.

Any one used one and, if so, how did it work out?

Also, if anyone is currently needing to pass one along to another member (or sell one), I'd be happy to adopt (buy) to help reduce the algae bloom.

Thanks,

So does anyone have a sea hare that has done it's magic and needs to find a good temporary home? I'll be happy to pay for the service or pass it along to another member in need.

I recently had a pretty big out break and added a large sea hare. He knocked out the whole tank in a week. Everything is spottless now. I actually still have him and was fixing to have to find him a new home if you are interested. LMK He is about 3-4 in long and a real pig. said:
