Aquarium glass scratched and foggy

my wife bought me my first salt water aquarium for Christmas. It took a while to find one we liked because we really were shopping for a stand/canopy that matched our furniture style more than we were an aquarium.

That being said, we ended up with a 55 gallon without many accessories. So today I got a light for my aquarium and noticed alot of little scratches and the front piece of glass looks foggy too. The aquarium is used btw. That being said, I did the vinegar clean and it does look better than before, but now with the light, I can really notice the scratches and the foggy glass.

When i wipe the glass with a wet towel, the foggy disapears...but no matter how much i wipe and clean, it comes back within seconds.

so my big question is, is there a way to safely fix scratches and this fog issue? and/or will these even show up once the tank is filled with water?

sometimes when you fill the tank the scratches will kinda disappear. Is it scratched on all sides? When I boght a used tank once, the back glass was flawless and used that side as the front.

You can buy a scratch removal kit, but you might be better off buying a new tank. Wait till Petco goes on sale for $1 for every gallon.

well he put like a black tint on the back glass, so I cannot move it around. what does a 55 g usually run new? im not really sure where best place to buy is, but if $1 per gallon, $55 sounds pretty cheap

yea just in there today and almost picked up a 20l for $20 and they had up to the 55g for $55. Great buy if you are looking for that size tanks.

Just a reminder if you do decide to buy it at Petco.

Measure your current tank dimensions and measure the new one.

Was your tank previously a saltwater setup? And what manufacturer if you know?

I purchased a used tank with cloudy sides thinking I could clean them. I even went so far as to purchase special glass buffing compound. In the end it was way too much work and I ended up buying a new tank.
