Aquacontroller Temp Gone Crazy

Anyone experience the temp probe on a Aquacontroller going crazy. I came home tonight to see the chiller still running. I noticed the temp on chiller said 72 degrees but Aquacontroller said 110!!! Chiller is usually about 2 degrees lower than Aquacontroller so I recalibrated the AC. Temp still is going crazy with swings or around 10 degrees per second. Seems the probe has cratered on me. :x Has anyone else had this occur and is there a simple fix that I am missing?? Thanks for some input..

If the probe is out and needs to be replaced where can I find one for the AC Jr? I purchased from Marine Depot and they only have replacements for AC III...

I have no idea. Did you check the connection? And did you check with a glass thermometer at least?

Can you control the chiller without the AC Jr?

NeptuneSystems sells the probes. You can contact Kurt via email:

my temp probe went out of whack as well...on an ACJr. I just had to order a new one. hopefully that is the real problem. my unit is 2 years old. right now it's reading 110 and was up to 115.

i ordered direct from neptunesys.com

tmpprbjr or something like that.

thanks for all the replies.. It appears that the probe has just gone out for some reason. I have checked the temp with glass thermo just to be close and taken the chiller off AC Jr and controlling with internals for now. I guess I just need to order a new one. Strange it would go out this fast. Only 11 months of operation so far. I would expect more :!:

i dont know if stray voltage can break these? but do you have a grounding prob in your tank

MY guess is that is has gone out. MD does have the probe you need.
Item Code: NS5151

I have ordered a new probe from Neptune Systems directly. Hopefully this will fix the problem..I do not have a grounding probe on the tank. How does that work?? Something I probably need..

I just lost my second probe for the ACIII. I replaced the last one under warranty in July. Hopefully this one will be a warranty replace also. I didn't have a grounding probe either. Just in case, I installed one today. I've had it for awhile and just haven't put it in. Maybe this will help.

Also, I thought that maybe electrical spikes could cause this. I don't know but I've just taken care of that as well.

Curt from Neptune just emailed me and said the failure rate on these probes is about 1% so they have a good history. (except with me) He just replied that he will replace it also.

My failure was a wild fluctuation of the temp' with it finally settling on 118'.
Is that what you experienced?

my max hit 115 and it stayed in that range. where do you get a grounding probe? if it was a stray voltage, wouldn't the pH probe be affected as well?

If it was stray voltage it will take the closest way to ground so say for example a pump that is straying voltage is closer to temp probe than your ph probe it would go there...path of least resistance...so in this case closest probe.

that is my guess plus they could just be a bad batch of probes that were made.....

i had mine running for less than a week before it stuck, pegged at 122, i called Neptune today and they're replacing it under warranty.

I suspect they just up and fail...

stray voltage should not damage the probe. it could cause the readings to be off, but unlikely with such a variance... sounds like failed probes.

according to Curt at Neptune it is just a case of failed probes. He told me he did not feel it was due to stray voltage as the stray voltage should only make the reading go crazy for a short time...
