anyone running Reefbrite LEDS?

hey everyone. i'm about to buy a new fixture for my 75g 48x18x19from the substrate to rim. i was wondering if anyone else was using these and if a 50/50 and an actinic blue would run LPS and a couple easy to keep SPS. i spoke with TCUguy and he gave me some interesting input and some stuff to think about but was also wondering if anyone else was running these as their only lighting. let me know what u guys think. My tank would be open top and i could hang them as close to the surface as needed. if this doesnt seem like a good idea i'm just gunna go with a 6bulb T5. thx!

I am running these. Im running 2 full blue 48" strips and one solid white 48" strips on a 75 exclusively. I wouldnt get the 50/50 ones at all there pointless unless you have 2 blue and one white...then i might get a 50/50. I am running lps ...acans, chalice, blastomussa, torch, frogspawn , and zoo's, paly's some other softies and have some sps. Im quite happy with them myself. They are pretty expensive but there easy to install and havent had any problems with them. I like the shimmer they create in my tank. In my opinion you need at least two solid blue and a solid white one. Then you could supplement with a T5 or two, but its all personal opinion. Im happy with the colors im getting with just the leds and they dont put out much heat if any at all.

i run two blue reefbrites along with a ati t5 powermodue I do have to saw the coloring of my sps have improved since adding the leds.

if you are handy with soldering i would just build a led fixture. on my next tank i am going to build my own.

How would I go about gedtting one of these led kits? I wouldn't know which ones to get or lenes or whatever. I can follow instructions and do handy studff just don't know much about what I need exactly. I have read about stevesleds and all that but it may as well b in a foreign language.

Talk to imagex I don't know his real name he has built led fixtures for quite a few reefers in dfw area. He owns custom reefs they are on the other dallas site. I spoke to him for a good hour picking his brain on LEDs he knows what he is talking about. I saw a couple of steve LEDs fixtures I was not impressed by the quality of how they were built they have a very food concept but alittle more time could be used to clean up the final product

its still up in the air about what i plan on getting. i have the money to get 2 of them right now but wont be able to afford the 3rd one for a while i'm sure. only reason i was wondering about the 50/50 and 1 blue was cuz i wasnt planning on getting 3 at the moment and i dont want the blue to be overwhelming but i like the 12k+ look but still want to be able to see the other colors too.

Its all a matter of personal opinion of course. In my opinion you want more blue then white leds. The whites will washout the blues if you dont have enough blues. So to me the 50/50 is a wash by it self and with another blue strip with it...it will be too dim. With a all blue and a all white strip its a wash and too dim, but looks better than the 50/50 and a blue strip. what i mean by a wash is that the color isnt very appealing. Now im talking about my tank which is a 75 gallon with 48" strips. On a smaller tank it might look ok with only two strips but not on a bigger tank. The only way i would get a 50/50 is if i had two blue. one white and then i would consider the 50/50. I have a blue on the front and a blue on the back and the white in between and it looks good. You could also get the blues and then suplement with some T5's for now and you may find you like that. I just wanted all leds becuase i didnt want to mess with bulb changes any more and to keep my temps low. You could get a full white strip and a full blue and always buy another blue later. There may be someone close to you that you could look at them. I live in Wichita FAlls Tx and i wouldnt mind you coming and looking at mine but you probably wouldnt want to drive this far. The mounts that come with the strips allow you to angle the strips so you can turn them....it kind of allows you to get different looks by moving the blue and whites around. To answer your question i would say two blues and one white strip will give you the 12 to 14k look depending on the angle you adjust them and the height. I like my colors but some may not. So you should try to find some over a tank to look at before you purchase them since there expensive. Have you looked at the thread that talks about these light? You might get out cheaper with those with only two over your tank.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but the LED bug has bit. I'm looking to add a LED actinic strip to my T5 setup next week and was wondering if anyone has anymore input on the Reefbrite units?

I noticed there's an all blue and a 50/50, so I'm not sure which one would work best to give me a good "pop"! I've seen a couple of DIY setups lately and it looks like a fun project but just don't have the time, so I need to just buy a unit and the Reefbrites look well made.

Thanks for the input... [smilie=smile.gif]

I run 2 all blue reefbrites once i turn on the the power module the LEDs get overpowered but for straight actinics they make things pop in color

I'm currently running an ATI sunpower 6x54w and my bulbs are blue+, actinic, purple plus, ge, blue+, and blue+.

Right now my dusk and dawn are blue+ and actinic only and my daytime are the other 4 only, so do you think the Reefbrites would be drained drained out during the day cycle?

From my experience the all blue strips are very bright. They will add some shimmer and blue it up and stuff will pop. They are great for suplement. I have been running 2 blue and 1 white 48" strips for a while now and have kept some easy sps and all lps even on the sand of a 75g.
