One of the LFS here has a pair of Bellus on sale for $199 which is an outstanding price for them and I'm thinking about getting them for my 450. Has anyone kept them before? I've read a fair amount about them but first hand knowledge is always good!

Here are the fish I'm talking about in case you haven't seen them.

My other inhabitants are:

PBT
Sailfin tang
regal angel
Mag. foxface
flame angel
pair of blue throat triggers
and some other anthias, clowns etc. that would be no issue.

I'm really thinking of getting these guys as they are beautiful. I would qt together in my 29G hex.

Thoughts, warnings, etc.

I'm pretty sure they were a pair of watanabei's but you may be right. .

I was at Saltwater Paradise when he bought those! Had to be early 2004

There was a thread about the bellus on RC about a month ago. If you can ge access to the search function you can probably find it pretty quick.

Ya I've read what I could on RC. Generally fairly successful. Some of the males have had issues (swim bladder and such) but it evidently has greatly improved over the last year or so. There isn't that much out there on them. I guess they are fairly rare. I knew they were somewhat but this seems more then any other fish I've researched.

Peter had a pair of the watanabei.
I think the Bellus would be pretty hardy as long as they were caught properly. I have seen them at DNA a few times.
Very pretty fish! Good luck.

Hey Keith - Love the Fish! The male is the hardest to keep for some reason. For what is worth....those who have tried to keep a mated pair usually lost the male.

Go for it and post the pics for everyone to see.

Well it seems the same here! I went back today and the female looks great and is eating well, the male they said barely eats and is a little sluggish so they offered it to me for free on the condition that I buy the female if I can bring the male around so I brought him home and put him in hypo and have added nitrofurazone as he is a little spoltchy on one side so it's probably a bacterial infection. I don't have a ton of hope, but my biggest goal will be to get him eating!!
