Anyone have an ORP Meter to Compare?

A couple weeks ago I received a Lab Grade ORP probe for my Apex I was going to use to control my ozone generator. The issue I'm having is I'm pretty sure something is interfering with it somehow since my ORP is reading as high as 465 during it's peak. I keep it separate from my PH and Temp probe and also have the wires away from each other. It's in a lower flow area and it came calibrated according to Neptune. Either my water is extremely clean or my probe is incorrect. Either way I'm not going to be using ozone now since I'm scared I'll wipe out my tank with numbers that high.

Does anyone in Dallas or near Las Colinas have an ORP meter I can borrow to confirm my readings? I'd much appreciate it and I can come almost anytime to pick it up unless you want to come by yourself.

Also how long has it been in the water? When I had an ORP probe I found that I had to clean it often to keep good readings, atleast once a week.

So you have it at least 6" from the ph probe and upstream before the skimmer? Cheers said:
Yes but I actually got the idea from your question to put the probe in the overflow box to see if there was much difference. It dropped 20 points but right now it's at 472. I'd still like to compare to another probe. The probe has been in the tank for 2 weeks.

What does it read in just a glass of tank water and a glass of ro/di water. You could default the ORP calibration also but you may need to call neptune on how that is done. I'm assuming you didn't attempt to calibrate it without the Quinidone(sp?) powder. May be easier to contact Curt directly, he'll get it going.

Can you share that info with me. I'm clueless on calibrating this. said:
The stuff to calibrate it cost as much as a probe but last a longggg time, not even worth it since the probes are indeed calibrated, even the ones not from neptune. Even though it's a new probe try cleaning it with a vinegar solution. The cal reset is tricky as you have to get into some hidden menu's and you can brick your controller if not careful, that would require a call to Curt.

Well apparently it's not the calibration, something is severely interfering with it. I have it in a glass of RO water and it dropped to 270 and now it's back up to 340! I may be s.o.l. since I keep my ballasts, outlets, and everything else under the stand. Any ideas?

Most likely the ballast.....you can alway's relocate the ballast temporarily to make sure it's the culprit. They make little emi suppression ring's that could help, could try radio shack, Altex or Fry's.

You also may have some low level stray current in the tank, you could try a grounding probe or better yet just test with a multimeter. You could rig up a quick grounding cable to just see but I don't recomment that if you are not sure how to do it.

The probe is out of the sump and overflow box and in a glass of RO water on the kitchen counter. The lights are off and the ORP is now back up to 460. Could the ballast still interfere when it's turned off? Also, could the apex itself need to be addressed?

My ballasts are Lumatek and they're advertised to not interfere. The only other thing it could be other than the apex could be the Vortech wave drivers that are next to it.

I have 4 drivers next to mine and have not had interference issues but YMMV. Turn everything off and see what happen's, if still an issue then it's time to give Curt a ring.

Cheers,
