Anyone have a little potassium permanganate?

Hey all,

I've got a minor (hopefully) outbreak of monti eating nudibranchs. I've done quite a bit of research and it seems that eric borneman has had some success treating in QT with potassium permanganate. I still haven't found any available at Leslie's or Lowe's or Home Depot except in very large sizes, so I was wondering if anyone might have some and could spare/sell a few grams.

If anyone has used this in the past, what was your experience?

Thanks,

Yes, I have some. You are welcome to come pick some up after I get home from work. I usually get home by 6:30pm. Please pm me if you are interested and i will give you my address.
Thanks,
Mary

I used Eric's recommended dosing and killed all of my nudi's as well as my montipora. Use with extremem caution. I would try repeat baths of an hour instead.

These things are the worst and are near to impossible to rid your system of!

I found that the amount that is recomended for use if very hard to measure. I have digital scales at work that weighs to the 10th of a gram and it was still difficult to measure the amount needed. The offer is still open if you need some. I have plenty!
Thanks,
Mary

Thanks Mary for your offer, when I return from my Thanksgiving travels, I will gladly take you up on it! :D

I have been manually removing the few that I can see and scrubbing what I believe to be eggs sacks with my livestock brush. Fortunately, all of my monti's are still relatively small frags that are easily removed, but I've got to set up a QT to put them in while the display tank, free from any monti's, hopefully starves the stragglers.

I've always known the value of QT and previously had one up and running at all times, but 3 moves in 3 years decreases motivation for such things...another reminder of the primacy of nature over man!

If anyone else has experience with the use of Potassium Permanganate to deal with this menace, I would love to hear about your experiences.

Thanks again,

I have a bunch as well, you're more than welcome to take what you need for free..

I used it for disease / infection on fish..

I only used a bit at a time...think about it this way, you're still better off than without it. This stuff is prety potent.

I have yet to lose a livestock treated with pottasion permanganate

My experience is that the dose and timing is the most critical part. It takes amazingly little to be effective so measuring the proper amounts is the important part.
