anybody try to raise bioluminescent dinoflagellates

Hi All,

Any one tried cultivating Pyrocystis fusiformis (blue light emitting dinos)

Thinking if I have a few of them in the reef, at night would be a cool blue light show.

only problem i see is that your protein skimmer might skim them out..

Plus, if I remember right, they are very warm water species and require a lot of nutrients. I swam in a bay that had the greatest concentration of bioluminescent dinos last March. It was really neat shooting fireballs at my wife underwater.

I did the biobay thing too. It was really cool...but they wouldn't let us swim in it like the pic on the website.

If you could manage to get those to grow in a tank, that would be cool!

I'm not sure what it would do to tank params though. I'd think a species only tank would be a good place to start.

If you do this, please keep the site posted on your progress.

do those thing live in water in california? when i was a little kid my uncle took me to this beach to catch these little fish at night i was so fascinated when i played with the water it glowed like that but i never new what it was.
