Anybody know what this is?

This has been on one of my rocks for a long time. The particular rock had some kind of huge SPS on it that the guy I bought the rock from couldnt get off so he let it die. Just wondering if this might be it coming back or what it could be. It has distinct polyps.

Thanks
Angela

That is encrusting Montipora. It might start making branches in the future, and if so, it is Montipora digitata. The way it spreads like a puddle first is normal, but if it never makes any branches, it isn't digitata.

Looks nice and healthy. :)

Thanks! The whole rock is a huge skeleton of this Im guessing. The largest part that is coming back is about 5" x 5". Then there are a few little 1" or so areas that are coming back. I just love freebies. Only problem is its on the same rock as my huge sebae anemone.

Thanks for the ID

Red Mushrooms
Green Pocillopora
Red Ring zoos.

:)

Btw, how come you didn't make it to the frag swap?

I wanted to come bad. Im in nursing school and had about a billion pages of paperwork to do last weekend and had to study for a respiratory test. Plus had to get up early Sunday to go to the hospital. :x Nursing school stinks! I want to be a full time reefer!

Yeah yeah yeah... And I had a nice fat bag FULL of Feather Caleupera with your name on it that I ended up having to donate to the raffle... ;)

Just teasing, I know life sometimes interferes with hobbies... And, I was suprised to see, my contribution was NOT the last thing chosen from the raffle too!

Maybe I need to make a habit of bagging my prunings up and donating 'em to the raffle, eh?

Well, had I known people wanted it other than the odd request here or there, I'd have been doing that long ago...

That, and I could prolly also donate a few IPSF Strombus Grazer snails from time to time (That aren't really Strombus at all), considering they reproduce like mad in my tank...

(P.S. Sorry to hijack your thread Angela... :) )

You need to ship me some...I would buy a bag of two. Need more varieties since I got ripped off by the ebay fella  I'm sorry I had you bring it though. I decided I better not come at the last minute after going back and forth all day. Im sure someone will enjoy it. I think it's a beautiful plant.

Angela,
No biggie... Not like I've never been stood up before... ;) (Just teasing!)

It'll be a while until I have a large bag full again, but lemme know when you'll be in town and if I'm gonna be there I can at least bag ya' up a little bit of it...

If it takes to your tank, it'll grow pretty quick, so ya' really don't need TOO much of the stuff to get started...

Serk, I'm the one that got that bag, I think - it was marked $19.98 - LOL

Better than a fish, for me....

Angela, congrats on finding the encrusting montipora! It's beautiful! I've tried getting that stuff to grow in my tank, but the two have died off. SPS I can do, but if it's flat...well, enjoy! Nice green.

Cathy,
Yep, that was mine! I tend to re-use bags from things I bring home from the LFS...

Glad to hear it's going to good use! I honestly didn't think people wanted it that bad, and was planning on taking it home, putting it in the freezer to kill it and throwing it away until Marc suggested putting it in with the other raffle goodies...

Well Cathy all I can say is they must thrive on neglect because I have never paid any attention to it, never fed it, nothing. I do think it's very pretty and yould like to have some different colors like purple and orange. Check out these SPS corals that I found. I think they are beautiful. Marc probably thinks they are tacky like he did my Cynarina. I think they are too! That's why I like them. I think I have picked out some Christmas presents.

I love the Mirulina, but don't recognize that first (linked) one.

Only the one coral you bought at Franks is tacky. Let me rephrase: I knew someone else would love that coral and would give it a great home. Yeah, that's it.

Tell me there isn't at least one orchid you don't like. We all have different tastes, which is why each of our tanks looks different from the next one.

Brian, I've love to get a few strombus from you some time.

back on topic, Orchid, i'm 90% sure that's a green Montipora Digitata. See the white "uprisings" coming out of the base? Those are turning into branches.
