Any X10 Gurus???

Now that the 300G is on its way to being functional, I am looking for a couple of solutions to some of the setup detail. If you take a look at my build thread, you'll notice I put 2 105G water storage containers in the garage. The pump that runs them in part of a socket setup I had installed in the garage. It has a GFI 4-plex and a GFI 2-plex on the wall. I use the exiting 4-plex because it is wired to an on/off switch in the equipment area in the laudry room so I can turn the Mag pump in my RO can on and pump water from the garage to the 10G RO tank my ATO is set into. That setup is going away with the new install and I am going to be relying on a single pump to push water from either the SW or RO to various spots. I would like to do this remotely, but don't want to rewire everything so I was thinking of X10. I know they make X10 receptacles that can be triggered remotely, but my question is do they push or flip swithes that activate x10 that I can install near the tank an in the equipment room to activate that pump?? If so, can you post a link?

Also, how secure are X10 signals? I would be worried about someone else in the 'hood' accidentally turning one of these on.

Ideally I would have one receptacle and 3 on/off switches that I can mount in various places to turn things on/off from.

Wow I haven't been to the X10 site in a while. When did they go all "Girls Gone Wild"?!? I am not sure what crowd they are catering to these days but they still have the same stuff.

I am using some old school X10 stuff and I love it. Use the search bar at the top and search for "receptacle" and "switch" and you should find what you're looking for. Make sure the spouse doesn't walk in or she will swear you are on some entry level porn site. WTF?

Dave,

I run DC8's and X-10 for non crit's. I would suggest an X-10 outlet and a x-10 remote along with a line filter and interface module ....much simplier than muliple switches and you can use different channels if needed. I would still have a shutoff valve inside as an added safety measure.

Cheers,

I want to avoid a remote control unit if possible... but won't rule it out.

How about a combo of these..

Use this to turn off/on.. Would I be able to have 2 or 3 of these placed around the house keyed into the same channel to control the single outlet below?

PS... Ron... the entire thing has valves.. all this would do is turn the pump on from inside the house, not while on the road :) This would let me pump the water (SW or RO) while watching it fill and shut it off without having to run out into the garage.

Those will work also, obviously stand-alone. Just gotta cut more holes in your wall's for the mounting box.

Cool.. I think for the tank, I am going to wire one into a box and mount it to a leg or to the panel we are putting into it. X10 is not wireless correct? It uses the houses electrical wiring to carry the signals? So everything has to be wired into the houses circuits?

There is a wireless component to X10, but it's a separate system more or less (You hafta get a plugin X10 wireless -> Wired transponder that grabs the radio signal and puts it on the wire). If you don't have that portion, then no handheld remotes, and no wireless...
