any ideas on how to get mushrooms to expand more?

My mushrooms used to expand more but they seem to be a little tighter than usually. I have PCs 260 watt days/acts and lots of flow in a 55 gallon (still having a time getting the detritus of the rocks though).

Any ideas? What would make a mushroom not expand fully?

They are the size of dimes/nickels but I know they can expand up to half dollar size as in the past. They still seem to be doing well though and reproducing.

Not sure what your peramiters are. But if you are having detris build up on your rocks you should first consider your flow. Second your cleanup crew should clean up the detris and yours is not. And if you are having alot of detris build up something is not right. Check your flow and see if you have enough cleanup crews to keep up.

Here is what I would do syphon your rock and get rid of as much detris as you possibly can. Do a major water change. Detris is in fact waste that can build up and cause water quality problems. Once you get things in check your shroons will come back to life and expand like they should. I had this same problem in a DAS 110. My problem consisted of 2 things flow and not enough cleanup crews. Hope this helps get you back on track.

I will look at it... I wasn't sure if there is was such a thing as too much flow for mushrooms... I've got another powerhead I could drop in there.

I appreciate your feedback.

I also noticed my mushrooms do not like alot of flow. I have to try and place them in a low flow area or in an area where the flow is somewhat random. Straight line flow they definitely didn't like.

If you want any LPS to puff up just put him in a shaded area with limited flow... shade makes him expand to gather more light and the lightened flow will not upset him in this state
