any idea what these things are?

not sure what the heck these are - they're multiplying though.. I thought they were bubble algae, but all the bubble algae I've seen has been green. Any ideas?

They are a type of red valonia, and can reach epidemic proportions. Remove all of them that you can find if possible.

This happened to Scott's tank, and they were everywhere. Then suddenly, months later, every last one vanished. He never figured out what made them go away, but they were enough of a problem that he was trying to remove them manually.

so I assume like regular bubble algae I don't want to pop them
what's the easiest way to remove them by hand without popping them? seems like it'd be pretty easy to pop one inadvertantly.

Siphoning them out as you pry them off with something small would be ideal, but if you release some stuff in the process, hopefully your skimmer will help pull it out.

I have had these in my tank since i started in (3 months ago). I Very carefully picked off the big ones and have had no problems or growth out of the small ones. So i would just watch them and remove them if they start growing but they have not seemed to bother anything in my tank so i dont really see a problem with them.
