Ant farm in my tank?

I have been noticing, lately, that I have, what look to be, channels going thru the sand below the surface of the sand base. They look like an antfarm would look. Can someone tell me what its causing this and if I need to be worried? I am hoping it is something that is cleaning the sand but I havent put any sand sifters in my tank.

It's a very good thing. That is most likely the work of spagetti worms. They bore down bringing nitrate laden water behind them and return to the surface helping the DSB do it's job.

I have never seen them. How big are they/will they get? I guess they moved in with LR or LS? I know I didnt put them in.

Here is the worm. You usually only see the strands on the head sticking out of the sand grabbing onto something. Credit for the photo goes to Dick (Amphibious over on Talking Reef)

Hitchhiker generally. You can add some or sometimes they'll be in a bag of live sand. If you get a few cups of sand from an established tank there should be some in there.

I know that I have seen anything like the worm pictured, but I do remember seeing what I thought was a little shrimp, during my last move. After researching the amphipods, thank you Ashlar, I found a picture that looked exactly like what I thought was my little shrimp. Now my question is: Is this thing beneficial to my tank? I assume so since it is doing some cleaning. Thank you both for your input.

The amphipods are great for the tank. They are a food source for fish liek wrasses and mandarins. Plus they they are part fo the natural food chain in a reef system. The more you have the better. If you look close at your sand/rocks you shoudl see them crawling around every now and then.

Well upon more research I found that the amphipods are microscopic little white bugs. I dont have any of those and I havent seen anything even resembling a worm. I did, however, discover the tiny shrimp-looking creature in the move about two months ago. Could this guy be the cause of my ant farm? If so, what is he? He was about 1/2 long and a brownish-white color. I appreciate all the help im recieving.
