another stand build

i have a 75g tank that i have had since june and i build the stand then. now im having a problem with the height of it. its to low to really do anything in my cabinet area. so i am thinking of build another stand and need to know what are some of the minimums that u guys have. cause i dont want to go through this again. right now im at about 20" and i'm thinking about atleast 30" maybe 35"

I like 30" , gives you enough room for most any skimmer you can find, within reason. Any taller and I think the tank starts to look short.

I always thought it should match how you want to view the tank.. if you have a favorite chair or stool that you use, pull up to it and see what part of the tank you want to see (within reason).

If I had my druthers, my tank wouldn't be as tall, but longer, and the bottom of it would be about 35" from the floor.

Yep..It's all about what you like, no set standard. I built my stand to be 36" high, with the tank being 31" tall it's just as tall as me. I like being able to stand in front of it and not have to bend down to see what's in the tank....flipside of it being so high is that it makes it harder to reach in or place coral.

Cheers,

i can understand those reasons, but i just asked because my stand is only about 20" high and where the tank is sitting( its not enough room for anything behind it). so that makes me have to put everthing under the stand. only to figure out the i cant get skimmer in and out of the sump/fuge without removing the whole tank from uner the stand.

My stand height was constructed at 32".

Gr8 to fit all the things you need and not worry about height.

However, you will need you kitchen chair to do any work above your tank when needed, but the tank will sit at a nice height without having to stoop down to look at it.

Some food for thought.

well i got a little free time today to play around the house, so i started on the new build. i am going to make it about 34" tall this time. really not to high cause i still need the wife to help clean at times when i can't get home to do it. well i have the frame started and ran out of 2 x 4, but the good thing is that i only have the center bracing to do. hers a shot of the frame

IMO 2x4's do not have very good strentgh when orientated that direction, I think they should be vertical.

If you add a center brace under that long span of the 2x4's, I think he'll be fine. But yes, I agree, they're stronger on edge.

actually the whole stand is made of 2 x 4s and i did go with center bracing. itsd not completely finish but i did finally get the tank tore down enough to move the tank on top of the stand. i went 32"H x 49"L x 19"W which is just enough that when i do decide to close it in it willlook as though that tank is sitting inside of the stand about a 1". for the time being i just have it covered with like a curtain type material. this stand makes me feel a whole lot better because i dont have to bend down to look at whats going on inside the tank.
