anemones and corals together

I've got a mixed reef and two anemones doing very well on either side of the tank. One's a pink condy and the other is a sebae. They're growing and being hosted and have not killed any corals and not moving around. Anyway, I would love to get one of those RBTA, maybe Sherman, Big Steve's. Does anyone know if that would be too many anemones in my tank? My tank is a 120 with 40 gal sump. At the Next Wave last year, someone was saying that anemones and corals together is not good, but I've seen lots people do it.

Kay.

Well...for reference, I had up to 21 RBTA's in my tank at one time  I was lucky and never lost anything, although I will admit i am not covered up in corals as well.

Just be careful...there are threads here talking about losing some sps cause one decided to go walking.

Wow. How big was your tank? BTW, is there a waiting list for one of your clones? I saw some pictures and now I want one.

Kay

Its a 150. Amanda helped me break/redo the tank due to dsb issues. When it was all said and done, we had 21 of them... I had some where I didnt know it (behind rocks, etc.) Thats when the first big batch came out. I have about 6-7 now, but some are a little too small. Im trying to fatten them up :p

I'll take a little one. Anemones do well in my tank, probably because of metal halides. Anyway, remember me when you decide to sell some.

Steve, I'd love to get one of these famous Sherman Roses one day. Whenever they are ready, of course.

Kay, the risk is when the anemone decides to travel. At that point, it will leave a wake of death in its path. If your anemone picks a spot and stays there, that would be ideal.

Kay,

In our 90g, we aquascaped it so that we have a stand alone "Anemone Island." The island of Live rock stands alone and their is quite a bit of space between the island and any glass or the island and our other aquascaping. (approx 6-7")

We have a 14" Sherman RBTA and a 4-5" BTA... on the island. The SRBTA has decided to move as of late... but it only encircles the island when its on the move.

Just a suggestion... but it has worked for us! :)

Good luck!

Maybe this should be moved to the want to buy forum!

That's a great idea about the island. But a loose anemone is going to float around till it's happy. I'd have to get one already on a rock and put it on the island. My other two are very happy. The condy moved before when I took my clowns out for ich treatment. It didn't kill anything, but I was lucky. When I put my clowns back in it seemed much happier.

Steve, can you make a list and put us on the list?

Kay

you don't have to get one on a rock before you put it in your tank, you can just hold it on the rock until it attatches. Granted it will probably move to find a more ideal spot, but this way you won't just have an anemone floating around randomly in your tank.

We should just have a sticky thread for Sherman Clones to trade/sell - they're high demand, and good splitters!

We have 2 right now, and probably will have a couple more trade/sell at some point this year, if the past year is any indication.

Lovely, lovely things that keep me fascinated for hours on end.

Maybe a Sherman RBTA could be the first item added to the official "Coral Bank" concept when it gets rolling?

I'm still waiting on either of my BTA's to split, so I can pass the love on as I received it... :)

Hi y'all. What can we do about officially starting a list? Are you reading this Big Steve? Any ideas?

Kay

Yep..Im reading it :p

One thing I am thinking about doing is tying a system into my main tank (like Serk) just for the roses, maybe leave one in my main for color.

Im thinking of maybe doing some lighting upgrades (slowly/hqi pendants $, Im getting more of a sps bug in me) and if I do, maybe set up a deep hex/cube with a single MH fixtue I have now...I believe I could re-create the same conditions as in my main which I feel accounts a lot for the color. Would most certainly allow for easier care and access...but $ is a issue (aint it always? )

On a side note...I have been having some issues with calcium/alk and just now have my CR dialed in...I have been having some issues with growth and I believe the alk was a contributed to the problem. There getting puffier :)

Honey, if your reading this, Have I told you how nice you look today?

Steve - needless to say, but I'll say it anyway, if ya' have any questions about the in-line anemone tank, ask away... I'm loving mine, almost more than the 55g in-line dispaly refuguim I did previously!

Now if I could only get my BTA's to start thinking about splitting... I've been feeding 'em well, and am currently making water to do a water change...
