Anemone in predator tank

A buddy bought an old system and he's going to go predator with it. I was just curious if we could put some anemones in there for color. Lighting won't be an issue (3x compact MH and 4x t5). From what I've read there are "some" predators that will eat/pick at em but i wasnt sure how specific that was. Any advice/experience would be appreciated!

predator is a wide topic... Lion and Puffer's will pick on them... Sharks and Rays wont, so it would be helpful if we knew what they intend to put in the tank.

Well, you just hit the nail on the head lol. Main focus will be the ray, mayyyyybe two (Cortez), then not too certain. Was thinking pretty general with lion(s), puffers, triggers, and some various angels. Not too specific yet, moreso rather have a handful of the more exotic/colorful of the species. (I.e. clown, huma, undulated triggers, stars and stripes, golden puffers, queen angel, emperor, etc). Thanks!

YMMV of course.

My male Cortez ray is a known coral molester. I wouldn't put it past him to tangle with an anom out of boredom or looking for food. Best to think of a Cortez ray like a big dumb golden retriever in your tank. Energetic, strong, inquisitive, hungry, and no regard for anything else.

Big puffers are going to have no problems biting tentacles off as well. All in all it seems risky.
If you have the room, you can create a display refugium and put your anemone in there and let it share the water quality. It can help sweep up particles of food left behind by your messy preds without them being able to get at it.

Thanks Howard! I was thinking were gonna have to use the refugium space in the sump for LR to keep the sand bed clear as possible. So, might as well use what's not stackable in the DT and just put some leds over the sump? :))) is it really that simple lol.

If you wouldnt mind H, I can txt you some pics of the sump design (haven't really been fond of due to small return chamber) but might be perfectly designed for this! :)))

Yeah. Raymond will always park it in the sand under a open cave when he wants to rest. So you need some open spaces, but then stacked rock like a bridge: ____^^^^^____

Show me your sump stuff when you have time.
I sure wish someone had helped me when I was building my pred tank. I'd scrap the whole thing and start over if the wife/budget would let me. :p

Marc has some builds that are pretty interesting as well if you check out his threads. In particular I like the 'fuge built into the front of the sump instead of a middle section like you see most often.

Yeah, def have plans for some caves/overhangs. Have a really good combo of rocks to make some cool scaping. When we first got the tank (turn key), it was a pred tank but just didn't cut it. Had less than half the rock and just wasn't too appealing :/ went reef for awhile, but ended up breaking down to sell to him and he's pretty stoked about getting it all setup. He's redone the sand and stuff so he's ready to get it all zipped up and full of water lol.
