Ambon lion?

My new addition. Even the LFS can't postively ID this fish. I search on the web and concluded that it is a ambon lion or rhinopias scorpion. Can anyone confrim what it is?

Definately in the scorpion family. I looked through the atlas and the closest thing I see to it is labeled as Scorpaenopis sp, which basically means it doesn't have a specific name. The problem with identifying it exactly is there are hundreds of diffenrent types of scorpion fish.

The weird thing about scorpion fish is that certain breeds that are the same species can look very different because of the environment they come from. It seems that some breeds develop different body traits based on environment. There is also some evidence that different kinds of scorpion fish may interbreed.

He is cute in an ugly sort of way.

It's a scorpionfish. Not a lion or a Rhinopias, but actually it's own little group called Pteroidicthys amboinensis... the Ambon scorpion fish.

Very friendly little critter, when they get use to you, but VERY hard to convert to frozen fare. They adapt very easily to being fed in a net if you have trouble getting live food to him during the weaning process.

What other fish do you have in there?

Great find!

He is in the tank with a fuzzy lion and a moroon clown. I have been training him to eat forzen. No success so far. He was tempted to take a bite on some mysis. But once he realized it wasn't live, he wont take another bite. It did not help either when the fuzzy always got to the mysis while the ambon was thinking about it :x
