How much ambient light is too much for corals?

My plan was to run the lighting on my frag tank at night when the main lights when out for 2 reason, mainly tank temp. but also ph.

When I tested this the mail tank still gets some light, it not direct but from I can still make out all the corals and there and see everything with relative ease.

Also the frag tank will never be in complete darkness regardless of the time I run the lights since it in the same room as fuge tank light. Is this a problem?

When I looked the frag tank this morning, the corals where very extended like they would normally be in complete darkness, so I think I am ok just want some options.

well they were that way around 11 last night to when it was only the ambiant light.

do you think ambiant light is ok or do they need complete darkness?
The room is not brightly lit but light enough where you don't need to turn ont the light to see what you are doing.

Cloudless moonlight night light up the Ocean pretty darn well. I would not worry about it not being pitch dark.

that is a good idea, not any helpful comment really just a thanks as im gonna use that. my frag section is below the tank in the stand, so i could easily run it opposite the tank same as my fuge...
