Am i just uncoordinated, or what? - Coral feeding...

[So, I tried to feed one of my corals this evening from the frag workshop. It's the one that isn't photosynthetic and must be fed. But here's the question/challenge...

How do I target feed the coral AND get the stupid glass on top of it while keeping the food in the glass/near the coral? I didn't do so well...anyone have a special technique?

I DID successfully get the floor soaked, and the aiptasia in the vicinity of the coral is very full!]

[Misty, are you talking about something that sorta looks like a brain coral? The one Marc was discussing?

I'm not sure, but I think he said he puts the food near the coral, THEN flips the bowl over it - and with the pumps off.

I also think if the food is in the bottom of the bowl, and you can stand over the tank (maybe on a chair?), put the bowl in the water - over the coral - THEN flip it, the suction ought to hold the food in the "bottom" or top of flipped bowl, and take the food right to the coral. Probably some trick (especially to explain it!) but I have seen it done that way.

Send Marc a PM, I'm sure he will respond!]

[I'm using cyclops-eeze. I put some into the syringe and squirted it onto the coral. Then, I tried to get a glass over it as quickly as possible...it's just not that easy. The coral is on the bottom of the tank, and even with standing on a chair, I just reach the bottom.

I see a couple of the little white polyps extended, so hopefully they got some food. The coral is the orange one with the reddish spots that extend the little white flower-like polyps.

We'll see...]

[This is how I feed the suncoral

As you can see, the dome in the back had slits cut in it to allow current to blow through, while the dome in the front was current-proof and kept the food on the polyps.]

[If you blend up your coral food and wait till about an hour or so after all the lights are off you can then just dump it in the tank as I do. Or you can then use a turkey baster and using a small flashlight shoot the food directly at the particuliar coral. The hour or so after the lights go out is when the feeder polyps on most corals come out.]

[I think having that opening in the top is the key for me! Off to get some soda bottles...hmmm...what can I get...I don't drink soda much...Lol.]

[You can buy a Big K type of soda at Kroger for .50 a bottle. Drink up so you'll be awake long enough to feed your coral and remember to remove the dome. :wwww:]
