Alk test kits

I have been having a real issue with keeping my alk in check. I have been using API test kits and find them unreliable. I can do 3 tests in a row and get 3 different readings. Varying 1-2 points. Just had a test done at a lfs and they gave me a reading of 13 which would explain some burnt tips. Came home and did another test and got a reading of 8 with the api kit. Who uses what test kit and feels it to be reliable. I really need to get this under control. I have experienced way to many loses. From what I understand the Salifert test are junk, at least the new ones. Also who is using the Seachem Reef Salt and how do you like it?

I like the Tropic Marin alkalinity test kit.
 
Yes, I completely trust it and it didn't cost much. I must have bought it during one of my trips because I never see it at the LFS I go to here.
 
I've used Tropic Marin for at least a year with no problems. Recently bought the Salifert and it has been hitting within the TM results consistently.
 
I use API alk test kits with no problem I do test with elos test kit every other month.

You might check to see if your test kit is expired
 
I use both the Elos and Salifert Alk test kits without any issues. The readings track each other. I like the Elos because all you have to do is count the drops.

Will have to give it a try since the Elos kits are on the expensive side.

Funny, the cheapest kit on the market turns out to be the test kit of choice. Around 8 bucks [smilie=surprised.gif]
 
You should (if you don't) come to the meetings. That's where I got my Elos test kit as a door prize. Free chance to try out a test kit and it worked great!

The meetings are really informative too, not just a chance to get free stuff.... [smilie=wink.gif]
