Its a gray skin (feels like skin) like covering that has grown over the bottom of this rock. There are also a few yellow mounds growing that feel rubbery to the touch. We are not sure if it is glue of some sort from the previous owner or what???
growing in the dark i would almost say sponge especially with the small circular holes at the top there, but not likely and i cant say i have ever seen anything with the 'skin' appearance...
Someone else on another forum said it was sponge also. I was kinda hoping it was an alien life form from Mars or something so I could start fragging it and sell it on the forum rofl.
It is wierd looking the way it is growing though.
Thanks for your reply, I am sure a few others will chime in I hope.
I have this on the bottom of one of my rocks, too. And also the yellow ones you are talking about. I just noticed the one like in your pic a few days ago and was about the make a post asking about it. Guess you saved me the trouble.
can be a sign of a healthy tank btw...and like pampee said, normally bad for these guys (fataly so) to be removed and allowed to touch air. air gets trapped in their delicate pathways and can do serious damage.
Thanks for all the replies. It wasn't out of water for long, we were rearranging the rock work and had it in a container submerged but took it out long enough to take the picture.
