Aiptasia - In my refugium

[Has anyone seen this before. They are growing on the top of the Cheto.

I am going to turn it over and get a peppermint for my refugum.]

[Better to rip it out and dispose of it then hope you get a critter to eat it.]

[I"ll do both. rip it and get a peppermint for the refug. If there are ones I can see, I hope the peppermint can find the rest.

Thanks]

[Likley due to the lower flow / higher nutrients in the fuge. Unless they eat up all the pod population I'd leave them there as filteration.]

[No way I would leave them there!! Although I do think they have merit as filters, unless you screen the water going back to your tank at a 100 micron or lower level I would not trust them in a fuge. One little piece overflows sucks up into the tank then blamo your stuck with them in your display.]

[I am still worried about all the macro algae in my fuge.

If I take it out and put in cold tap water I am sure it will kill any Aiptasia living in it. I want to strilize the macro.
I know it will kill everything else living in it, but thats better than throwing it all out and starting over.

My question is will cold tap water kill the macro. And how long a soaking will it take to kill the Aiptasia?]

[I hae monster sized ones in my duraso over flow and in my sump. They catch any extra food that gets in there. I have a copperband so I have no worries about them making it back to the tank. Every now and again I will scrape a few off and throw them in the tank. It is a tasty snack for the cband.]
