AGA 240 with 1" bulkhead, what size drain PVC do you use?

My 240 RR AGA tank have a 1 3/4" hole bulkhead which calls for 1" PVC to be used as drain back to the sump.

But after researching on durso standpipe, a lot of people recommend on using 1 1/4" pipe to reduce noises.

My question is, do you run 1 1/4" after the bulkhead to the sump, or stick with 1" ?

The difference seem pretty large running a 1 1/4" drain and 3/4" return back the tank.

What do you guys run ?

1-1/4" for the durso, 1" for the drain line.. the larger size slows the water down a bit and keeps the noise down.

Yep. You'll need the matching adaptor to screw or press into the bulkhead inside the overflow to increase the size of the Durso.

I still can't believe a tank the size of a 240g has 1" drains. The returns are 3/4"? Some are using both as their drains, and running the returns up the backside of the tank and over the lip back into the tank.

Stan... when we redid my plumbing, we ran my two 1 1/4 inch drains into a single 2" pipe with a t-coupler. It drains great and I get very little noise from it. I added a durso anyway but it wasn't nearly as loud as it was prior to that.

Ahhh.... Well go larger in the tank as the others have suggested then. I think that will be your best bet.

We also ran 1" from the pump to right before the tank then dropped it to 3/4 for the return. The 1" from the pump decreased the pressure on the pump and was easier to mess with then split it into two 3/4 right before the returns under the tank.
