accidental salt overdose

Ok, for what ever reason my baby fry tank was 1.035 , I assumed since I was doing 50% water changes a day from my main tank 1.025 that it would be near that , but I guess evap has been worse than imagined. I am going to lower it over the next 24 hours . I can't believe my one fry is still alive after this.

Almost as bad as me putting new tank water in after a water change... 90% done putting the new water in... and realizing I never checked the salinity. Luckily it was spot on but still felt really dumb.

I use a measuring cup to get the amount of salt right when I mix up new water. However, when I check it, it is never the same. Either really high like 1.030 or low like 1.018. Occasionally coming out 1.020. So what could be the difference, like I said I use the same amount of RO water, and the same amount of salt each time. So I know how you feel.

I've been told that shocking a fish with a sudden salinity change is nothing compared to shocking a fish with a sudden PH change. Is this true?

Any ph change would not be good. Salinity change up can be stressful. Should go up no more than two points a day. However, salinity can be lowered very fast as long as all other parameters are the same, (ph and temp).

The water temp difference is most likely the reason for what you describe. If you use the same salt brand with usual amount of salt/water at same temp/ph then SG will come out the same each time.
