I have hooked up AC Jr and wanted to add the moonlight feature. The manual states that the AC Jr is capable of running incandescent moonlights which will fluctuate intensity by the pattern of the actual moon cycle. Does anyone know where to find moonlights that will let the AC Jr operate in this manner? Thanks in advance for the help.

You go to Home Depot and buy a cheap outdoor socket, get the rubber boot that goes around the bulb and covers the socket area against moisture. You wire it up to a plug and plug that into an outlet controlled by the AquaController. Then you buy a blue 15watt or 20 watt bulb. The AquaController will turn the bulb on and dim it according to the moon cycle.

Thanks Rick. All is up and running and looks great at night, very natural looking and all done for less than $10.00.

That's great, mine has been running like that for nearly five years. The bulb has burnt out once in that time. Also don't be surprised when you do not see it lighting for periods of time and think that it is not working. It will be just like the moon and be lit during the day when your other lights are on.

no particular reason that I am aware of other than I read a statement in the AC Jr manual that this will help in fish spawning to have a natural moon light setting. Other than that I am just taking advantage of the features provided with the AC Jr.

I have to laugh at myself, as I was going to say it provides a more natural environment. As well as I think they need, outside of say being in the ocean itself. :D But all in all, I think they do need periods of total darkness and I like the way the tank follows the patterns of the moon.

Shrimp and crabs tend to mold right before a new moon, so that they have total darkness for their most vulnerable time... I have no evidence, but I seem to find more moltings during the time when my artificial not-tied-to-the-real-cycles moon lights are in their "new moon" mode...
