A strange twist

Yesterday as I took pictures of my reef, I did so with the pumps off. When the MP60 resumed, my RBTA began to spin around and around, twisting its base. It was concerning, so I stopped the pump and tried to unwind it with my gloved hand. It began retracting into the rocks, so I left it alone before I annoyed it -- I didn't want it to split, nor to move.

Today, I checked on it and the core was still twisted. However, I think it is moving its foot to unwind now, rather than pivoting the top section. I'll keep an eye on it and let y'all know how it develops.

The upper section doesn't provide a clue that the core isn't the normal pillar usually seen.

Great pics Marc!!! Your BTA is HUGE! Is that tank the same as in the book "The Coral Reef Aquarium? "

No, the 280g was featured in that book. This is the 215g I'm using until the 400g arrives. Then everything moves over, and this tank will be gone.

WOW that thing is massive... I find it interesting that it would unwind from the base rather than the top. keep us posted as to what it does.

I'm waiting for all the lights to come on, but it looks like the RBTA took care of itself last night.

Today, it is all back to normal. Tomorrow, its presence will surely be obvious once more.
