A little guidance please.

I would get a new skimmer or try to fix your bullet. You might also look at octopus skimmers, they have a number of in sump options and are known as a fairly reliable brand. IME Bermuda skimmers are excellent as well but I only have experience working with external ones. I'm not sure if they make an in-sump version but it would be worth looking into IMO. I would put some live rock back into your sump. Your post is ironic because I just went through something similar with my system albeit much smaller. I cut the amount of live rock in half and added small powerheads to my skimmer/drain chamber and refugium as well as did about a 70 percent water change and cleaned everything that could be cleaned.

Have you been able to find out what is causing your issues?(nitrates, phospahtes, high tds?)

Everything you are doing is definatly a good thing. One other thing you could consider is a good filter sock routine to catch the detritus before it hits your sump and collects.

Your rock could be storing what is causing your bloom, I wouldnt look to this cleaning to be the magic bullet. It never seems to work that way for me anyway. Fighting algae seems to be a drawn out process in my tank. Cooking the rock may not be a bad idea, but its a pain.

Your skimmer choice is a good one, less electricity and probably better performance.

I was refering to the bubblemaster, dont get me wrong the bullet 3 is tried and true, if you could fix it and its working for you I would keep it also.

I consider cooking rock extreme and could never keep up with it. I was just thinking along the lines of if you could indentify the source you could set up a plan to remove it. Example: high phosphates maybe run a gfo reactor.

I feel your pain I am going through the exact same thing and trying alot of the same things. Hopefully you can get it cleared up and I can copy you. :D
