A good way to catch a fish

[Hey all

Trying to catch a 3-4" Fox Face without destroying my LR formations...any ideas?

Do the fish traps really work for this type of fish? And if so what kind?? What would I bait it with?

Does anyone have one I might be able to try out??

Or any other ideas....baiting to top and net scoop is out....he knows what’s up :cussing:

Thanks]

[I would be very careful. Those top spines can send you to the hospital.
Good luck on catching him.]

[I know........a reason why I want him out......he fights with a couple of my fish (had for yrs) and he has nailed both of them]

[I'm in the process of trying to catch a fish right now. I have tried the 2 Liter coke bottle and it worked on my blenny and my yellow tang, but not goby I'm trying to catch. Today I'm building a trap that I saw on reefcentral and I will let you know how it goes. It uses a 2' PVC with a cap on the end.

Oh and just use the same food you feed it for bait and be patient the fish freak out at first, but in an hour or 2 they will swim right in.]

[I am also intrested in catching my two larger fish.

You say a 2 liter bottle worked on the tang?

I have heard of that for catching pest crabs.

Describe what you did exactly please.

Post some links if you have them!]

[hehe, Yeah I caught every fish except the sand sifter... Here is a pic of the trap I made. Just put some brine shrimp or nori in the back and lay it in the tank horizontally. Make the opening of the bottle the size of the fish you want to catch. I made the first one two big and other fish kept swimming in and getting the food. Oh and crabs can't climb up the slope to get in the trap.

[I had to recently catch a purple tang that was eating some corals, here's what I did...

I placed a net in the tank, just leaning against a rock, and left it there all day so the fish would get used to it. Later in the evening, I took a bunch of seaweed, squid, and brine and put it in the net...I then took a turkey baster and pointed it towards the net and I used it to blow and suck the water in and out making the food go back and forth inside the net.

Two of the tangs I didn't even want to catch went in right away...and the purple tang followed after about 20 minutes. Be careful if you do have to use a net, because if they get too caught up in it, they can get hurt. Good luck!]

[Here is the trap I built today. I got this off reefcentral for catching gobies. It's basically 2' PVC with a string attached with some sand. Hopefully he will doing his daily tour of the cleaning front lawn and I can catch him.
