A Few Coral Questions

Okay so today i just got two corals. one is a small xenia frag and the other is a brain coral. What exactly do i need to feed or supplement these corals.

Does the brain coral have to be placed on the sandbed or can it be placed on a piece of live rock.

I want the xenia to grow well so i can frag it in a few monts so what supps should i be providing so it grows well. thanks for the help

Can you give us a bit more info as to the tank setup you have ? things like tanks size, lighting, what's currently in it, filtration, etc. This will allow the other users here to be able to give you suggestions for the best outcome.

Thanks

The tank is stocked with 3 chromis and a small xenia frag and a small brain coral. I currently feed flake and mysis shrimp for the chromis and I put in a capfull of purple up in every other day.

As far as equipment I am running an HOB filter and skimmer. The tank is 55 gal with about 100pounds of live rock.

My questions are what am i supposed to feed and/or supplement my coral with. are they any good products to provide the corals with all the stuff they need to grow.

you don't have to feed either one of them. But if you wanted to feed the brain, I used to crush up mysis and target feed it at night when the tentacles where out. My brain doesnt like bright bright lights. For the xenia----keep the lights on em, all you need is iodine, but the purple up has some in it already--other than that, you should be fine with water changes to replenish your trace minerals. Once it starts growing, you will want it to stop.

thanks that really helps. the brain is in the sandbed as i was instructed and it looks good and i moved the xenia higher up in the tank.

watch out on overdosing the purple up--you don't have to dose as instructed since there are not many things in your thank yet that use the iodine, calcium, and trace elements in it....you may be risking an overdose on iodine and it will cause problems later. dose sparingly---o yea, keep your PH in check, once it gets low or high, the xenia will stop pulsing, same goes for your alk levels.

hope that helps, but I am no expert, this is just from experience and yours maybe different. Figured I'd answer with what I know.
