90 gallon or 105 gallon

I am considering downsizing my 150 gallon to a 90 or 105 gallon oceanic tank. So I have been told the 90 gallon doesn't have a glass center brace at to top of the tank and has thinner glass. Question: I plan to use a 60" light hood to lay on top of a wooden canopy... Would this be to much weight for a 90 gallon tank? Is this a valid concern? Would it be better to go with a 105 gallon for this reason? I liked the idea that a 90 gallon doesn't have the glass center brace to block the light from the corals.... and its only 3 inches shorter than a 105. hmmm

I made the same decision, although for another reason, a few years back. What was driving my choice was the desire to have a deep sand bed (DSB). I wanted it to be at least 6" deep so the extra height on the 105 was the way to go for me.

I will say that I do not like the center brace at all. If I want any good amount of light to get to the center of the tank I have to clean it regularly, at least twice a month.

I do like the extra height for another reason. It does give some extra open water space for the fish to swin in.

better yet, maybe consider going to a 120 that is 48"x24"x24"? I know a lot of people (including myself) that would really appreciate the extra 6" depth, allows for more interesting aquascapes than a 18" deep tank.

Ok why would they downsize to a 120 from a 150....? Seems like they were asking about a 90 or 105 :D

here is my 90g corner. I love it ... It has a ton of room for the coral and fish with lots of caves for the fish to swim in and around.

Maybe it is a 6 foot 150 gallon. If you are considering a 120 for the 24" depth why not go a little taller and get the 140. It is the same just 5 inches taller. The 24" front to back is awesome for aquascaping. I had one and loved it but went bigger. I think 140 is the perfect 4 foot tank.

Here is a pic of my 140 gallon I had.

Can't reach the bottom of a 140 without killing your armpits.

I have the 6foot version of the 150 and it 18 inches deep. Thanks for all the inputs and the pictures :D My other tank is a 33 cube and the deeper depth of that tank in nice. The ONLY reason I'm considering downsizing is because of the heat this tank generates in the house and the heat the external pump keeps this tank at without the chiller to keep it cool. Right now the tank goes through 1.5 to 2 gallons of top off a day. We do keep our house at 78 to 80 degrees.

My experience..

Purchased the 105,, put it in the wall and started to hook up the plumbing.. Realized that 28 inches to the bottom was going to be a real pain.. Hurt my armpits and still could not hit the bottom of the tank..
I ended up ordering a 90 to take its place.. have not regretted it.. I would prefer to have the 24’ depth for more aquascaping but was limited to the wall space and 18 was the max
