80 gph for calcium reactor?

Would an 80gph pump be sufficient as a recirculating pump for a calcium reactor that is 4.5" wide and 18" tall? Since this pump is running 24/7, I want to use as little power as possible.

Sounds a little week to me, but my Ca Reactor has a Mag 7 on it.

Heck, the input pump is a MaxiJet 1200!

I agree with Marc. Most of the threads I've read on these use a much larger pump for the internal circulation pump.

Do you have that thing put together yet? I'm looking forward to seeing pictures.

You want a big pump for recirculation to ensure the CO2 is distributed and therefore pH consistent in the chamber. That small of a pump will cause the pH near the CO2 output to be significantly lower and could result insome of the media turning to mush or not enough media dissolving because the rest of the chamber is to high.

Keith,
What you posted makes perfect sense, but unfortunately, the pump (Eheim 1046) arrived at my home today. Since my tank doesn't have much SPS, I'm hoping that the bubble count will be low enough so that I don't run into too much trouble. I'll find out after I finish the reactor.

Steve,
I glued the flanges to the tubes. Bought most of the fittings but was waiting for the pump to arrive. The holes on the bottom flages sealed up fine with acrylic scraping and weldon 4.
I ran into the first "if I were to do it again". We should have drill for the holes for the tee eliminator a little smaller than 1". After sanding, the hole is a little too big for the tee eliminator and is causing a little drip. I'll need to add silicon around the edge.
