**** 8 gallon vs. 12 gallon****

We had a 65 gl for the past two years and need to downgrade. Being new to the nano community it would be wonderful to have some input from you guys with more experience. We are undecided between the:

12gl JBJ
2 x 24 Watt bulbs

8gl Oceanic
2 x 18 watt bulbs

Any thoughts????

the smaller the tank, the harder to take care of. 12 gallons gives you more room for error than an 8 gallon...plus it's more room for coral.

I have all nano's so yes the smaller the more you have to stay on top of it. Plus by the time you put rock and sand less room for corals & less choices in fish selection if you want a fish.

thank guys....I thought I was getting the 12 gl also......but when I got home my husband had already purchased the 8 gl and set it up....It looks very nice though. We transfered the sand, rocks and a small cleaning crew from our 65 gl, trying to avoid a big cycle, but the parameters are going nuts...  .......this morning I tested and the amonia, trites and trates were out the roof. Our previous tank cylce it was one at a time, should I do a water change???? :?: I know it slows the cycle but I do not want the cleaning crew to suffer. I would put them back into the big tank but we sold it yesterday.....what do you guys suggest????

I'm still new... only having tanks a year, but I would do water changes to dilute the noxious chemicals. I have used BioSpira to help with that although now that your chemicals are already up it may take longer to work. But if you can get some at an LFS I would suggest that to help get that bacteria working. I'm surprised though if you used everything from an exsiting tank that it would go nuts. It may be a mini cycle from a new set up. Maybe someone with more experience can shed more light... but off the bat do water changes for the crew's sake.

yeah do a water change...if you have fish and corals if none i would let it do its thing.....
