70W Metal Halide

I have access to about a dozen slightly used 70W metal halide ballasts. The hospital I work in id downgrading the entrance lighting to use CFL bulbs to be more energy efficient. They've only been used since Oct when they finished the facility. I can pick them up fairly cheap. Would these be worth using in a DIY light setup on a reef tank or are the too small? I haven't seen any posts on 70W metal halides anywhere else.

Here's a link to the ballast on 1000bulbs

That's a good ballast for a Pico / Nano tank, 12g and under. If you go larger, you can use more ballasts, provided you can find the matching bulb of choice.

Cool deal. I had given up on my 37G project back when we moved. Maybe I need to pick it back up & go with a 29G & use one for the lighting for it.

Depending on the price, i might be interested in one or two. There are plenty of DIY online stores that will sell you everything from the clips to uv glass shield for the 70 watt HQI. The sunpod ha a 70,150, and 250watt halide model. Check out ninjafish's nano tank build on youtube, its awesome what he did with a 70 watt fixture.......Found it!!

if you google search a little you can actually find the tank build.

That would be great, i was concidering doing the exact set up as ninjafish, canister filter, dosing pump, light, everything to a T. Somewhere along the reef'n pipeline i found this guy, i think his name is (or calls himself) Dj Timmy, he sent me over a few pics of the tank at about year old, coolest nano i have ever seen!! The canister filter has macro algae, a heater, and underwater lights for the macro! This guy was nuts!
