70W HQI What's it Good for?

OK, I know this is pretty good for most soft and lps corals, but, what about sps and clams? In a shallow tank where the fixture is about 12" from the top of the rockwork? Perhaps it would be easier to ask what is NOT recommended for this lighting?

Light is light - except for the color temperature. The wattage is matched to the tank depth/penetration desired for the given PAR/animal requirements. A 150w HQI matches up well with 15-20" deep tanks with I'd say LPS light at the sand. A 70, maybe 12" deep. You could probably put a clam and SPS even about 1/2 way up just fine.*

*I believe - opinion based on reading, not on experience.

i have a 70w Current Aquapod on my 14 gal nano. I have a crocea clam about halfway up on the rock work and SPS (monitpora Digita purple and yellow, Birdsnest, etc..) and they all grow great.

The clam I got as a baby at about 1.5" and has grown to about 3" or 3.5" in a year or so.

Thanks for the replies! I visited the lfs sunday and they had a few clams in. They were such little gems, and now I would like to try keeping one sometime if I can get my system right. I wasn't sure if my new light would work, so, I'm glad to hear they are being kept well in similar setups. It might be fun to try some of the hardier sps, too!
