700 Gallon Starfire is up and running!

Just an update to let everyone know that the 700 is finally leakproof and up and running!!! We removed all the sand and put yet another layer of glass over the broken bulkhead that was causing the problem.

We have decided to go bare bottom so I can keep nice acros, and feel that tank will be cleaner sans the sand.

James ordered the Aqua Controller Pro and every concievable attachment and probe for it (even X10), and he is going to install it this weekend. I plan on putting it on the web, so I can check the params from work! He also ordered new Hammer Head Pumps, we thought the Durangos were too loud and got too hot. We also have a 1 HP chiller on it's way here this week!!!

You would freak if you saw the amount of live rock is in this tank, it is at least 1500 lbs of it LOL! Some of the bolders were 80lbs each! I will post pics tonight hopefully. You can see the construction pics at

We put like 8-10 eductors on two closed loop systems and James is claiming we have 30,000 gallons of flow in that tank. That is alot of the reason I had to go bare bottom LOL! So it will be an entirely powerheadless system! PS I HAVE A BOATLOAD OF MAXIJETS IF PEOPLE WANT TO BUY THEM!!! Let's say $20 for a 1200 and $15 for a 600, they are all used and well covered in coraline and whatever gunk. But you know how Maxi Jets are they never go bad!

Just to recap on this:

Glad to read the tank is up and running.

I'll be checking your web site for pictures.

Happy for y'all.

Here are pics of the front!

James,

Does your Orange Shoulder Tang come from Scott? If so, I am so happy that fish is in your big tank. I missed him, I traded him to Scott and feel really bad.

Nope his Orange sholders went to another guy. The only fish that were Scott's are the Nasos, and the really huge like 14" Engineer Gobies...

Tank looks amazing the only thing missing is a trip with Jacques Cousteau to checkout your reef inhabitants.

10'x3'x3' is the dimensions.

The front 10' span is Starfire, and the right side that is 3'x3' is Starfire too.

We do nothing but ooogle it when we get home in the evenings. I might cancel the satellite bill, LOL.

The most hilarious thing to us so far is that the power comming out of the eductors hidden throughout the rock makes the Tangs swim funny when the enter the flow of them. Like on the end it makes them do a dive to the bottom.

They seem to be getting used to the flow of the eductors and some ride them across the tank!

This weekend James is removing the old Durango Pumps, and putting on the Hammerheads. Then we will rehang the lighting so all six 400w Halies are up. He has plans on setting up the Ocean's Motions Wave Maker this weekend too.

We are still waiting on the Chiller, Aqua Controller and the new ASM G6 Skimmer to arrive. The dealer we bought them from seems to be hem hawing around. We thought we would have them this weekend....

I was going to go to the meeting last night but the tempation to buy something was too great, so I had to sit it out. I am not ready to get anything new for the inhabitants yet, like fish or corals. James goes, "No you can't go, because I know you WILL buy SOMETHING!" So I had to stay home...

Wow Faith. You guys have a sweet setup. And it is only going to get better once the coraline sets in and you get to go out and spend money to stock it :). Nice set up you two.

James said I could not have any new corals yet so I placed a six hundred dollar order for fish! I am getting a honking load of anthias for this baby, they should be in tomorrow. The list is as follows:

Rainford Goby 2
Yasa Hase Goby 2
Sixline Wrasse m or lg 1
Cleaner Shrimp medium 12
Bumble Bee Snails 100
Rosy Scales Fairy Wrasse; I.O (Large) 2
Scott's Wrasse: Male; Fiji (M) 1
Midas Blenny: Lyretail 3
Trochus Snails 100
Carberry Anthias; 15
Flame Tail Blenny 1

I am so excited I could pee on myself! I always wanted this tank to be very active with the anthias everywhere! I think these and the fairy wrasses will make it very active and peaceful. So far all you see are the mac trucks (the huge tangs) zooming from one end to the other and all the smaller fish are hiding. Anthias make the smaller reef inhabitants more at ease. They are a Bellmeade fish. Meaning they are like rabbits in the the wild, the fish that gets eaten first and easiest, so they reproduce like wild! It would be cool if I could breed them! I don't know if anyone has ever been sucessful doing the anthias???

we could not find him anywhere on the internet but he is purple with a yellow tail and yellow high fin. He is pretty rare, they said they never saw one before.
