55 gal hex with 12 inch wide panes? how to verify????

Hi, I am looking at buying a 55 gallon hex and the measurements are 23.5 tall, and 12.25 across each of the 6 panes. I find some calculators that say 37 gal and some say 55 gallon.

Here is what she says "If you were looking down from the top, it measures
25" from point to point (where each pane meets)
22" from flat side to flat side (distance from center of each pane to center of pane across from it), and
each of the 6 pieces of glass is 12.25" wide and
tank is 23.5 tall

Can anyone make sense of this....honestly, I get just as many 37's as I do 55's and even emailed other ebayers with 35 and 55 tanks and got someone selling a 35 with same measurements as above. Go figure!

HI, yes, thanks I did, that calculator also says it is 37 gallons. Guess I will call petsmart and see if they have 12 inch across each pane hex and see what it is.

Based off of each pane being 12.25" and in a hexagon shape that will give you a foot print area of 389.8738 square inches. Multiply by your height of 23.5 and that gives you 9162.0343 cu inches. Divide this number 231 (there are 231 cu inches per gallon) and that gives you 39.66 gallons.

(389.8738 * 23.5)/231 = 39.66

I could go into calculating the foot print area, but I cheated and just drew it in Autocad then looked at the area under properties. I would say the tank is a 37 gallon or you could call it a 40 gallon.
 
You could also maybe, if you have lots of spare time, fill the tank... Get a MJ in there with a hose and empty it out into a gallon container over and over and over again. (Or a 5g bucket, etc etc)
