300 gallon its finshed....new updates and pictures

Well i have been selling off corals and stuff that i dont want to go in the new 300. The new tank will be a mixed reef with more LPS than anything. It has been fun with the 210, but the new tank is 30 inches deep and is frikin awesome. The tank dimensions are 96x30x24tall. I decided to build a new stand for it since my wife told me she would file for a divorce if i bought that "gaw-aful stand" in her house....so i much obliged and built it the way i wanted. Here are some of the pictures...

Fram is 2x6 top, 2x4s bottom and 2x4s double braced at posts...covered with 3/4 birch/ply and topped with 3/4 ply....boy has this beast gotten heavy, not easy to move by myselfe! I will try to post pics as i go along. Funny think is when i built the frame, i brought it in with no problem.....trimmed it and had to take the frikkin door off to get it in. it is 33 1/2 wide and the door is 34......fun when you have no one to help you. NOT!

Anyway, the tank move is schduled 8-25 and i can not wait!

Very nice.

Using a flash will help with those beer-tremorin' hands.

i think it is this crappy camera that has been dropped so many times, but i think human error is also a part to do with it.

Here is a question that i will throw out to the group. For my doors, should i have 3 30 inch doors, or should i go with 6 15 inch doors (2 for each hole). I am thinking 3-30 inch doors and going for the picture frame panel look....i think some tanks that are 8ft long seem like they have a gazillion doors. If i go with the 30 inch door set up, i am also going to make doors for the end of the cabinet to match for easy access to my sump and stuff.

Thoughts, or opinions. Hopefully i can get some better pics up with the finished product. I just moved it in so it is kinda late. All in total it took about 12 hrs to build by myselfe....wish i had help but a reefer has got to do what a reefer has got to do!

Why didnt you call? I live like 7 mi. away! :) Looks Good so far!!

I think I would go with 6 - 15 inch doors. I know you plan to seal them well, but cabinet doors that wide have a nasty tendency to warp and twist, especially around the humidity of a typical sump setup. Plus, they will also want to sag over time, unless you use a heavier type of hinge. IMHO, of course!

i was thinking of using crown molding and 1x2 select pine like this. Do you like how it turned out? Casey (is the btm baseboard

Is the back wide open? I can't really tell from the pics. (just wondering how you are going to get the inside floor in unless you cut it.

Sorry, i have been in Galveston since Thursday..good times.

1. I am leaning toward the 3 big doors and using 3 hinges verse 2, wife really like the picture frame look idea....am a little worried about the sag but i guess i can always make more doors later.

2. Yes, i do like the crown molding on top with the inset. I used 1x3 poplar with crown under it to make the top lip.

3. No, the back is not completly open. I am going t have to cut 2 pieces of 3/4 ply for the bottom.

Next step, clean and scrub the 300 to get it ready for the move on Saturday! WOOOO-HOOOOO

okay, well here is an update on the build.

1. started working on the raised panel doors. i went with 5 doors, 3 in the middle, 1 on each end.

2. 210 - moved and out

3. drink beer

4. move 300 in because 210 is out and we drank beer

5. sleep

6. drink beer and cook

7. plumb and build.

8. plumb some more

9. fix leak

10. complete !

Here are the pictures of the door. I used a stile and rail bit as well as a raised panel bit. here is the router and bit i used.
