I'm working out of town and my girlfriend called me and told me my naso died along with a small clown and a sailfin tang. I just tested my water Sunday before I left
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Ph 8.1
Ammonia 0
Calc 400
Alk 8
Phosphate less than 25 but not 0
Salinity 1.025

Anyone have this happen? Everything was great fat heathy and swimming around happy. Also she can't find the sailfin tang and he was about 3" so should I worry about that decaying in my tank. She can't take apart the rock work to search for it. I have a 112 with carbon running and a octx160 running now.

Take that back all of my fish died in 24 hours all coral look great. Any ideas would be good it doesn't make since to me

Did someone topoff with tap water? Or maybe stray voltage

Could be low oxygen or a parasite. Did she notice any of their behaviors before they died? What type of temperature regulators do you have? Have you checked your equipment for any electrical shorts? I've heard of small electrical charges from power heads etc shocking fish cause they're suspended in the water. Corals are slightly grounded so they don't get as much voltage...? There's a ton of things that can randomly happen. There's a few for you to look into...

Ha ha. We were both suggesting stray voltage at the same time so I guess I'm not reaching too far...

I just had my girlfriend doing all this testing and broke out the multimeter and my with everything running in getting 9.0 and with the skimmer of I get 0.8 and the skimmer off and the return pump off 0.00 can I leave the return pump on till I get home at 0.80

If no fish you could be ok without skimmer for a while. I would have her make sure that there is a pump pointed to the top keeping oxygen flow in the tank. If you have an air stone could run that as well.

Sent from pay phone in the airport.

Yea my luck..that skimmer is the only thing I bought used and my fish pay the price... Save 100$ and lose 400$ and all your pets and from what I've read is that
.80 should be ok for but not much higher.

I would run carbon and poly filter pads

Well we got all the fish out except one baby clown and I have a good size clean up crew so I think I should be ok also I have a reactor running carbon already so I think I'm okay. Ill test the water when I get home Friday everything tested fine again today. Just sucks must have happened when I cleaned the skimmer Sunday night before I left.

Stray voltage just means the tank is at a higher electrical potential then the surrounding area. You can have 1 gajillion volts running in there, but if its got no where to go, it's not doing anything. It's just potential energy. The moment you touch it, or there's a path for the electricity to go, that's when it's deadly and can arc through fish etc. Not to say you should have voltage in your aquarium, but keep in mind, as motors turn they induce voltage through electromagnetism.

First rule of electricity, it flows to the path of least resistance.

Just a quick link I could find that explains what I'm saying if it doesn't make sense.

I had 8 fish die in 12-24 hours all were heathy and eating like pigs. Like I said my water parameters are perfect. And if a something contaminated the water wouldn't the coral be suffering too? So that really confuses me as to why my fish died off

So after coming home I tested the stray voltage myself when I first drop the probe in to the water it hits 19.0 volts then slowly drops down to 8.0 volts after about 5 second, if I leave the probe in the water after 1 hour it will rest at 2.0 volts needless to say I am getting a new pump but still confused on what's going on

Sounds like to me that you may have bought a tang with flukes or something and it killed off all your fish. Flukes will continue to kill all of our fish till you treat the tank,
