29 gal lighting recommendations

Normal 29 gal soon to be converted to salt.. First step, I want to buy lights. I'm partial towards t5 ho which I've had in my planted fw tanks.

Thoughts on this unit?

all thoughts and recommendations appreciated.

LED, Franks Tanks has a new led setup that is sweet/bright... Check it out before you decide.

Franks whats that ^^? info plz I wanna check it out 2 i was 50/50 in led or hqi? What grows the best ^^^?

I have a 250w pendant w/ a 14k phoenix on my 29 gallon. Topless with a fan... and man you get some good growth!

the 250w wat open top would be real nice. You could go with a 20K bulb and still have the PAR to grown ANYTHING anywhere in the tank.

How much are you wanting to spend?....What corals will you be starting with? T5's will keep your heat issues down and you can do about any corals with them...depending on your experince with saltwater. I would just get a T5 retro kit and go from there. Is this your first saltwater tank? Stay away from Odyssea products...there cheap made and arent really that good. Might burn your house down.....and this is wear you dont want to skimp. Lighting is what makes most of your reef happen. Lights wont be cheap but you can find some reasonable ones

Oh, and that link you posted....please don't waste your money...that unit is garbage. Like said above, lighting makes the reef tank, so don't skimp.

You could light that with a single par38 spotlight hung about 2-3 feet above the tank. You would get around 100par at the sand bed and more up higher. I've done tests with them they will cover a 12x12 area just about that high above with 40optics.

can you tell me about this? this post is actually old, and the new system is planned as a 58 gal. where do i find out more about this product though?

Depending on the dimensions you might be able to do it with 2 spotlights. Look up ecoxotic they make ones and are great. About $100 a piece. I am running 4 on my 90 gallon (but a different brand which I import myself and their $70/piece)

thanks for your help! dimensions are 36x19x19.. I saw the ecoxotic and skimmed through some articles.. are there heating issues? sounds great and I never heard of the option until you mentioned it and i googled it.
