20h QT

I have been working on this for a while now. It's hard to find time to tinker sometimes with little one's! So I figures I'd get my feet wet and build a QT system before setting up my 100g RR.

So here it is after filling it. What a storm cloud. I think my wife called it an expensive night light.
There's also a pic of it after a few days. I wish it was a little clearer than this.

It only has a Penguin 330 ( No BioWheels) and a 130Watt Coral Life light strip right now. Next I will be looking for a skimmer and some PH's for this little dude.

Stand and canopy is DIY.
Any suggestions?

That's awfully purdy for a QT system! Are you going to add biowheels, or liverock for biological filtration?

I know you're doing this project as a chance to get your feet wet, but for a QT system you generally wanna keep it as simple as possible. Is your goal on this one a QT, or a smaller reef tank? :)

No Wheels. I will be putting some DIY Live rock in it once it finishes soaking in the tubs. I'll add some cured rock from an LFS or purchase from a member.

OK You caught me. It really WAS going to be a NANO until I bought a 100RR. So until I build the stand and canopy for the 100 this will be my chance to get used to SW.
I had already started this project so I just wanted to finish it. I'll keep it simple from here one out though. I need to find a simple skimmer solution.

Thanks for the comments

That would be a BIG nano

One thing to keep in mind if you truly want to use for a QT. You need to create an environment where the fish will not be stressed (i.e. Not completely open), but that you will have the ability to view him to see how he's doing during recovery. Keep in mind as you're deciding how much liverock you will use.

Also, many of the treatments for various fish diseases are toxic to inverts, corals, etc. Not sure how they would effect the good bacteria living in the liverocks... :?

Maybe someone else can chime in here.

Congrats on getting into SW and reefkeeping! This forum is a great resource for just about anything you'll need to know.
