2 questions about jbj ato set and cleaning

Hey all,

I bought a jbj ato from a member several months ago, and I'm finally getting around to preparing it for use. I have two questions:

1. How do I clean the float switches? Can I submerge the whole white switch part and gray clamp part including a few inches of the wire coming out of the switch into a mixture of vinegar and water. If so, do I need to scrub them really thoroughly with a soft brush, or would this be too abrasive and risk the integrity of the switch.

2. Please look at the attached photos: One valve is inverted; I assume this is so that both can go in the sump as a low and high point back up. Is that what you would interpret from the current configuration? I can always simply reverse the second float so that it is housed back inside the snail guard, but I was wondering if you experts had any input.

...so I guess that's more than 2 questions!

Thanks,

Moved to this forum.

1 Yes you can soak the entire switch in vinegar, I do it all the time.

2 With the lower switch plugged into sensor 1 and the inverted sensor into position 2 and operating in mode A it will work as follows. Sensor 1 (lower) will turn the fill pump on until it deactivates turning the fill pump off, the water level should never reach the second sensor but if it does the unit will shut off the fill pump. I use this configuration as a fail safe to prevent the sump from overflowing.

Here is a link to three other configurations for the ATO. http://www.premiumaquatics.com/aquatic-supplies/JBJ-ATO.html

Hope this helps.
