Woke up this morning to find two of my fish dead this morning!! Need help so that other won't die too.

1 Week ago: I bought 5 three strip damsels for the tank and one died the day after. No problem, probally just due to stress. But I did acclimate them for bout an hour.

3 days ago: 1 damsel had some viral or VERY BAD infection on its side, treated with GreenEX. Seemed to get better for bout a day, then worstened! But fish swam around tank as if it were just fine

2 days ago: Its a 55 gal tank that had a glass bottom, so 2 days ago i put 30 lbs of agaonite sand from Caribsea and also did about 50% water change.

This morning: The damsel was found dead with back half missing, and also my carribean angel was dead!!! could this have been because the carribean nipping/eating the dead infected damsel???

How long has this tank been running, before you added the fish? What are your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, salinity and temperature readings?

water temp is about 78

ph 8.2

nitrate and nitrite are in good order

fish tank has been up and running for over 1.5 yrs

salinity is about 1.022. its a little low to deter the ick from coming back said:
The best way would be to leave your tank fallow for 4-6 wks. No host(fish)=No ich.
BTW Your ich can survive just fine in that s.g.
I'm unfamiliar with the use of Greenx. Do you have a QT?

Ich will still come back at 1.022. 1.022 is normal for some people (on the low side).

Why didn't you treat your fish in a hospital tank?

What did you do with the fish while you added the sand?

What are your nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia levels reading?

The infection could have killed the other fish. If I see a sick fish I remove it to a hospital tank immediately so it doesn't infect the others. I actually put them in a hospital tank for a week before adding it to the main tank; so, in case they have some sort of disease that's hard to identify my other fish won't get it and suddenly end up dead. In 7-10 days you should be able to see if a fish is sick or not.

made a few mistakes.

i left fish in tank while adding aragonite to tank, although I did wash it thouroughly, the water was still milky. So I added carbon to clear up water. Did it just fine and crystal clear the next day.

also i do not have a QT tank. just dont have the room for one, maybe the best thing to do is to either set one up or just get rid of the fish(if its a cheap one  ) that shows signs of death.

As for nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia levels I have not had a chance to check them. I firgured they should be ok since i did about a 50% water change and i siphoned all acccess waste from the orginal glass bottom before adding the aragonite.

ALSO, I found this morning that my brackish puffer has ICK!!!

OH MY!!! whats the best remedy?

GarlicX? GreenEX?

DON'T put ich treatment in your tank if you ever plan on having snails, crabs, coral, or LIVE rock/sand ever again.

Go buy a 10g tank from your local pet store for $9.99. Put water from a water change in it to fill it up. Put a bag of dead sand for $7.99, some pieces of macro and a piece of live rock. There is your QT/Hospital!

Make sure future water changes in the QT are from brand new water. Fish in hospitals need pristine conditions.

ALSO... even if you did a 50% water change your nitrates could still be fine. We did 4-5 25-50% water changes when we were battling a spike (caused by removing filter floss *sigh*) and it was still 40ppm.

Go test!!! And remove that Ich fish ASAP. Also, throw any sick fish in your tank in to your hospital ASAP.

If you leave the Ich fish in the main tank, the parasites will drop off his side, land in the sand, hatch, go free swimming and infect your other fish. All it takes is for one of those dots to fall off, and that's not much time.

If it's brackish, you have the ability to change the salinity... If you're running the salinity on the high side now, go low, if you're running the salinity low, change it to high...

Obviously, make the changes slowly, and obviously, if you've got non-brackish things in this tank, put the puffer in another tank first...

Yes, I really like the GreenEx as well. It doesn't seem to harm inverts as stated on the bottle.

Down side is that it DOES turn silicone green

I did try to catch the little buger with a little net... tried for bout 30 mins, gave up and just dosed the entire tank with GreenEx. Seemed to take care of the Ick.

catching fish: I tried turning on the light to shock them, i tried food in the net, i even feed entire tank to try and catch the 3 stripe damel that was infected.

Hope the ICK dont come back!
*fingers crossed*
